anatawa namae wa?

I remember reading one of my friend’s blog which touched on the topic of Names. Our parents pick our names for many different reasons. Some hope that we live up to our given names; others bless us with our names and so forth. Each person’s name is unique.

I didn’t really appreciate my name when I was young. I always thought it sounded strange and spelt in a strange way. All in all, it was not the norm. ‘Too many alphabet ‘E’s in it. And why is there a ‘V’?’

Teachers and peers alike could never pronounce my name right, at least not to my liking. They tend to emphasis too much on the ‘E’ of my last name. I don’t think I need an emphasis on it, since it’s already spelt as ‘Ee’.

When I went for high school, in order to ‘hide’ my name, I adopted the popular trend—using a Christian name. I even used a Japanese name while online! >.<

It wasn’t until college did I learn to appreciate my name. There was this English lecturer in my faculty who loved to read. He’s a the sort of fellow who made lectures fun with his cute antiques. He claims that he couldn’t remember our names due to its huge variety and complication. Therefore, he always called us by mistake. For example, Karen Lye became Lye Lye; or Lau Mei Ling became Angela!! He would mix up names with similar sounds such as Mandy and Amanda. Nonetheless we had a roaring laughter. He never forgot my name though, for the reason that he said it sounds like Latin.

Julius Caeser had a quote that ran like this: Veni, vidi, vici. (I came, I saw, I conquered) So, since my name is VennEe, so…it hums with veni! Heee…^^ Choir once sang a Mozart’s 4-part song entitled “Veni Sancte Spiritus”(here comes a holy spirit). It kind of helped spread my name around the music faculty.^^ Credits to Mozart!. =P
