As i waited for November to come, i watched a few DVDs belonging to my brother. I watched Satoshi Kon's Millionaire Actress. (For those who are wondering who Satoshi Kon is, he's the director for Spirited AwayQianYuQianXun. In mandarin, he is GongQiJun. )
The story starts with this film director who interviews this old lady. As she tells her tale, her story gets unraveled along with all the roles that she has acted. In the very beginning, she fell in love with this mysterious rebel at first sight in Japan. Then, in persue of this man, she became an actress.
Her career spawned from old times until after the World War 2, where she witnessed the world change. Her only clue of this man was a key that he left her with. He said that it was the key to the most important thing ever. As time passed, she forgot his face. Painfully she still waited, until one day, she suddenly vanished from the screen. She lived a secluded, quiet life until her death after the interview.
It was after her death did the director told his cameraman that the man she loved was long dead before World War2. Now you will surely find the man, he said to her at her deathbed. As her soul ascended into the stars. She said,"Perhaps. But it doesn't matter now. It was the journey of going after him which made me fell in love with."
The other movie was a terrific CG(color graphic) animation, Appleseed. For those who like sci-fi robots, this show is really exciting.^^ It also has some powerful lines about humanity.
The story is set in the future where the world was removed to ashes after another global war. Duenan Knute was an elite soldier in these ruins, until she was brought to another side of Earth--the city of Olympus. Here, there was no war, but peace among humans and clones called Bioroids. Bioroids' emotion were surpressed, They know no hatred or love, thus minimizing desire, anger and war. However, they cannot reproduce.
Problem arouses in this peaceful city when some humans despise these Bioroids. "There are even those who plan the annihilation of all human beings, because as long as man lives, war will never cease." I think that's a scary idea. Are we really so cannibalistic deep down? I know man is capable of turning into animals when desperate, but i'm sure war can be stopped. By how and by what means i'm not sure. But nobody likes to live in a war-torn world. Just because we vary in religion and skin colour, what makes it worth to have blood spilled? Do we achieve anything in the end? What are we even fighting for?
as long as humans live, war will never cease??!
